The Hunger

Do you hunger for God?  Do you feel like something is missing?Jesus once told a crowd, ““Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.”

It is good to be hungry for God sometimes – to have a desire to hear a word from Him – from His Spirit.

It’s good to be so empty, at times, that you know that only God can fill you. We realize that we must rely on God during these times of emptiness.

Jesus once told a crowd, ““Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.” When we hunger and thirst in our souls, it is for righteousness.

He later said, ““Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.”

In our times of emptiness, we are seeking something.  We may not realize it, but we are seeking comfort, peace, and clarity.   In God’s presence, we find these.

Understanding God’s Presence

David declared,

“I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed. This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him and saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him and delivers them.

Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good!
Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!” (Psalm 34:4-8)

Jesus called it abiding which is just a word that means “living in.”

Abiding is time in God’s Word and time in prayer.

We when take refuge in Him, we are realizign that only in him will we find what we really need.

The word Refuge implys two things:

  1. There is something that we need refuge from.
  2. With Him is the place where refuge is found.

When we take refuge in God we will seek him.  How do we seek Him?  In prayer and in God’s Word the Bible.   Prayer is our time to walk with God where we aren’t just asking for help, it is just as much time spent listening to what he may want to say to us.

Today can be a day that you fidn refuge from storms in your life:

Pray to Him right now.  God, I need you.  I can’t do this without you.  I have nothing left to give.  No answers.  But, God, I know you do have answers.  I am seeking you now and want to feel your goodness right now.  Thank you for loving me especially when I need you! In your Sons name, Amen

Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good!
Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!”
